About The Presidio Trust
The Presidio Trust is seeking an Ecological Restoration Fellow to serve as an important member of our Natural Resources team. The Presidio is a new kind of national park. It is home to the spectacular vistas, nature and programs that visitors would expect as well as a community of residents and organizations who bring renewed vitality and purpose to this former military post. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency created to save the Presidio and share it with the public. The Trust’s Natural Resources department manages 145 acres of native plant communities in the park, including dune, coastal prairie, Oak woodland, and riparian habitats.
Position Overview & Description
Our ideal candidate is an individual who wants to learn basic restoration field practices and techniques that include identifying plants and wildlife common to the Presidio. Working closely with and being mentored by a Biological Science Technician, this Fellowship includes participating in and leading field restoration activities, and assisting in all aspects of managing a volunteer program. If you want to support the management and stewardship of the Presidio’s natural resources and restoration sites, this Fellowship is for you.
Responsibilities
Participate in and lead often repetitive field restoration activities such as:
Removing invasive plants
Planting native plants
Monitoring restoration progress
Maintain and enter records of work performed into database
Assist in inventorying and monitoring rare plants and wildlife
Assist with all aspects of managing a volunteer program, including:
Planning and leading projects for volunteer workdays
Preparing, setting-up, and cleaning up volunteer workdays and materials
Educating volunteers and visitors about local ecology and park issues
Maintaining the volunteer database and reporting on volunteer participation
Maintain program tools, facilities, and equipment
Communications: Contribute to newsletter and take photos and videos at events
Desired Qualifications
This job regularly involves repetitive motion for long hours at a time and performing physically strenuous tasks, occasionally under difficult conditions such as high sun/wind/fog exposure . While we are willing to guide the right candidate to increase physical capacity for this work, please be sure that you are enthusiastic for fieldwork before applying for this role.
Love of the outdoors and curiosity about ecological restoration
Desire to work with a diverse group of people with different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, ages, and viewpoints
Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision
Excited to take initiative
Strong organizational skills
Basic computer proficiency
A positive attitude under difficult work conditions
Must possess (at minimum) a valid Class C California Driver’s License and be capable of driving in a busy urban park. This qualification is necessary in order to transport self, tools and others.
Fellowship Experience at The Presidio Trust
The Presidio Trust will provide training and mentorship on all aspects of the position. The Fellow will join a dedicated and passionate Natural Resources team, and get hands-on community outreach and volunteer coordination skills. In addition, Fellows will connect to a larger network of land stewardship practitioners.

Upon completion of the term, 1200-hour CCAC Fellows receive a Segal Education Award of $4,546.50 in return for your service. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.

Basic Eligibility
AmeriCorps fellows must:
Be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents
Have a high school diploma/GED
Be 17 years old or older
Pass state criminal and FBI background checks, and a national check in the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Registry
Test negatively for tuberculosis if working with minors
Be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to weekly testing
Live in the state of California
