Position Title: Education and Training Fellow
Term of Service: Full-time, January 20, 2019 – August 31, 2020
Time requirements: 40 hours/week; 1,200 hours in 7.5-month span

About the position
Team member (1200 hours) based with The Energy Coalition (TEC) office and focused on supporting and expanding core energy, climate and environmental programs offered through TEC. Particular emphasis on expansion and development related to at-risk, formal and informal service populations within the Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and San Bernardino areas. The Fellow will support statewide education, training, and workforce development initiatives at TEC, with a particular focus on building partnerships with disadvantaged communities and populations located in Central and Southern California.
Additionally, the Fellow will support in-class and field-based activities through direct student education, community activities, and the development of new materials and offerings. The Fellow will support engagement via TEC’s Learning Management Systems (LMS) and the development of engaging content for online education, training, and engagement through LMS, social media, and more.
The Fellow will have opportunities to travel to and work in TEC’s statewide offices including; Los Angeles, San Diego, and Oakland. The Fellow may be asked to support statewide activities and attend in various TEC training and team-building functions that may require travel throughout the cycle.
The Fellow may travel (reimbursable) to Los Angeles and or San Diego weekly.
Desired Outcomes (Potential Projects List):
- Support development and continual engagement of partnerships and collaborations with the University of California system, California State system, Community Colleges, and other post-secondary California institutions to support outreach, engagement, and mentorship elements
- Facilitate, support, and customize onsite implementation offerings (i.e., site visits, professional development training, field trips) and curriculum materials for online and in-person audiences (i.e., students, community members, and educators)
- Support “My Energy Future,” STEM Heroes (STEM professionals) campaign through partnership development, interviews, mentorship building and establishing a mentor database to connect educators and students with STEM professionals
- Support analysis of pre- and post-learning survey data and outcomes for students and educators for Educator Learning Report generation
- Manage and create content for social media and outreach avenues (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, newsletters, website campaigns)
- Produce a minimum of two case study reports based on work with disadvantaged schools and populations
- Build relationships with workforce training partners to strengthen the development of a pipeline to the future workforce (specifically serving audiences within disadvantaged communities) to include post-secondary, high schools, elementary schools, community organizations, and educational entities that serve audiences within disadvantaged communities.
- Support integration of California science standards, arts education principles and more robust climate topics within the curriculum
- Manage and support program material organization, toolkit building, and dispersal
- Provide administrative support for program, student, and educator data tracking and reporting
- Create and contribute, through research, to a “TEC Resource Directory” with links for data & other resources that support climate literacy and STEM/climate curricula (as well as other initiatives across TEC, such as RFP submissions)
AmeriCorps fellows must:
- Be US citizens or legal permanent residents
- Have a high school diploma/GED
- Be 17 years old or older
- Pass state criminal and FBI background checks, and a national check in the Dru Sjodin Nationa Sex Offender Public Registry
- Test negatively for tuberculosis
- Be able and willing to commit to the 7.5-month service term
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
- Experience or interest in working in-person with K-12 and post-secondary students and educators;
- Experience conducting presentations (in-person or by webinar) to diverse audiences, particularly students and educators;
- Experience or interest in developing standards-aligned activities and curricula for K-12 students, particularly in science and environmental topics;
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards or a willingness to learn;
- Comfortable working with (and learning) databases and data entry, as well as analysis;
- Comfortable working with external industry partners via phone, email and in-person;
- Competency with or interest in technology platforms (including but not limited to: WordPress, Lightworks, Schoology, Blackboard, Edmodo, Moodle, WordPress, Salesforce, AutoCAD);
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks;
- Ability to complete assignments in a thorough, accurate and timely manner;
- Attention to detail and follow-through in tasks that meet contract deliverables;
- Proficient in English (verbal and written)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills for reports and business communications;
- Ability to perform required project tasks independently;
- Ability to expertly communicate and work collaboratively in a remote setting;
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a vehicle for travel for meetings and events;
- Must be available to work outside of regular business hours when needed;
- Has a “can-do” attitude, flexibility, and commitment to promoting a positive work environment for all;
- Active cell phone plan service; and
- Experience with Google Suite preferred.
