Facilities and Energy Management Fellow

Location

The Facilities and Energy Fellow will work with key team members of the campus community that includes Energy and Facilities Managers as well as Faculty and Administrators.  The successful candidate will focus on supporting energy management and strategic planning for sustainable facilities at Los Angeles City College.

The Fellow will expand upon the virtual education and outreach work accomplished by the 2020 Fellowship project. They will engage in a scope of work that includes: community-wide climate crisis and energy and water conservation education and outreach, community and campus shade tree promotion and education, and building energy benchmarking with facilities staff. SEI and District staff will support the Fellow to engage with these projects focused on the campus and broader community.

In their role, the Fellow will lead a host of creative outreach efforts that will include: creating “LACCD: Sustainably” newsletter publications, hosting virtual (and in-person, if future circumstances allow) presentations and workshops for student and environmental sustainability clubs, campus departmental staff meetings, and launching social media posts and campaigns. The Fellow will also ensure for deeper engagement with the surrounding community by coordinating targeted virtual outreach campaigns and public workshops around LADWP resources and programs in energy efficiency, renewable energy, water efficiency, and general climate crisis education.

The Fellow will also be responsible for creating presentation opportunities for campus and surrounding community members about energy and water conservation and the climate crisis to continue the work of the Virtual Climate Crisis education campaign. This will be accomplished through creating and hosting a combination of live and asynchronous workshops and presentations that will include (but not be limited to):

General information about energy efficiency and conservation principles using LADWP Energy and Water Saving Tips and Resources
General information about LADWP residential rebate and incentive programs with a focus on those available to renters and low-income eligible customers, such as the Consumer Rebate Program, Efficient Product Market Place, AC Optimization Program, Refrigerator Exchange Program, Shared Solar, etc.

Spotlight presentations from local community organizations and businesses with relevant work and initiatives
General climate crisis education

Desired Qualifications:
 
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental science, engineering, math, or a closely related field
- Experience with research and compiling data
- Experience with instruction and instructional design
- Capability to effectively format, prepare and present technical reports
- Competence in using energy management software
- Experience collaborating with others, including students

You will need (or want to learn):
 
- Knowledge of energy, sustainability, and environmental concepts
- Knowledge of energy auditing techniques, tools, and procedures
- Knowledge of using web based and other platforms to conduct data analysis
- Skill in multitasking and prioritizing
- Skill in use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Skill in project management
- Skill in written and graphical communication
- Ability to work effectively as part of a customer service team
- Ability to bring a positive attitude, can-do spirit, and have fun at work
