Location

The University of California Hastings College of the Law (“UC Hastings Law”) was founded in 1878 as the law department of the University of California and was the first law school in California. Over the years, it has built a legacy and reputation of being a preeminent institution comprised of renowned faculty committed to the study of legal theory and research and preparing students for careers in the judicial system, public service, and industry.

The Role
UC Hastings Law is in the midst of an exciting transition wherein we are updating the majority of our campus plant, we are seeking to bring our Academic Village shared campus platform to fruition, and we are working towards a stretch goal of becoming the greenest urban campus by 2025. With that challenging context in mind, the Operations department is seeking a Green Building Climate Fellow to support the effort to become the greenest urban campus by providing the critical foundational information required to achieve that goal. UC Hastings Law is seeking an exceptional candidate who is adaptable, agile, knowledgeable, and passionate about sustainability, green building, the built environment, and the ways in which higher education is uniquely positioned to make a difference in this field.

Working with UC Hastings Operations, Sustainability, and Facilities staff, and with support from the Green Building Practicum community of practice, mentors and peers, the Green Building Climate Fellow may develop and deliver some of the following campus-wide projects:

• Identify building baselines and benchmarks for energy, waste, water, steam, and greenhouse gas use employing Energy Star and other available benchmarking tools.
• Review new building Title 24 energy models and develop a system to compare actual energy use to modeled energy use that will ensure the building is performing up to its energy efficient design; perform energy audit of specified energy performance using energy model and/or building management system (BMS).
• Create inventories of major energy-using equipment in each building. Identify age and condition and opportunities to retrofit with more energy efficient options, as part of FCA (Facility Condition Assessment).
• Support the building drawing & documentation audit by reviewing the existing campus drawings and comparing them to the digital archive; manage the Document Management Program for FCA (Facility Condition Assessment) process.
• Perform LEED Reporting for the campus’s new LEED Platinum building, as well as assessing existing campus buildings against LEED and other green building criteria.
• Create a building occupant education and outreach program to meet LEED standards and to ensure new building energy and sustainability features are well understood and well utilized by occupants.
