The San Francisco Department of the Environment is partnering with Climate Corps AmeriCorps to recruit a full-time Fellow for the 2019-2020 service year (September – July) to assist with San Francisco's Green Business Program.
The San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) is a leader in climate, sustainable transportation, zero waste, toxics reduction and energy policy.
Our mission is to provide solutions that advance climate protection and enhance quality of life for all San Franciscans. Our Department prioritizes the following values: credibility, innovation, collaboration, equity and impact. We pride ourselves in being a trusted source of environmental information. Working with a range of partners is essential to our success, as all our initiatives are underpinned by a commitment to equity, inclusiveness and accessibility.
The San Francisco Green Business Program assists, recognizes, and promotes local small to medium-sized businesses that volunteer to operate in a more environmentally responsible way. Businesses that meet the high set of environmental standards in the areas of energy, water, waste, and pollution prevention are awarded with a recognition by the City and County of San Francisco and the state of California.
The Fellow's role at the Green Business Program will be multifaceted and involves working closely with small-to-medium sized businesses in order to help them become Green Businesses. Tasks include: developing new recruitment strategies, conducting Green Business site visits, writing environmental reports, speaking at merchant/neighborhood association meetings, contributing content for social media, and organizing Green Business networking events.
The Fellow will gain knowledge and experience in energy, water, waste and pollution prevention audits, as well as in community outreach and client relationship management. The Fellow will also learn about San Francisco’s environmental policies, and SF Environment's role in creating and enforcing environmental policies.
